This year my mother turns 70! And to mark the occasion I suggested we take a bus tour of Scotland next year. Mom enjoys tracing her roots on Ancestry.ca and most of her (and therefore my) family history can be found in Scotland.
I have started my research. My hair stylist told me about Globus, a tour company her mother and sister had travelled with a few years ago and enjoyed, so I’ve checked them out online. They seem pretty expensive, but their tours do include lodging and meals, so I will have to compare them with some of the other tour companies that operate on more of a “a la carte” system. I hopped on to the forum on Fodors to enquire about bus tour companies and Rabbies was a front runner by far. One person also mentioned Timberbush. I liked that both Rabbies and Timberbush provide a choice in accommodations and that their groups and buses are smaller. A Rabbies tour that particularly caught my eye were the “clan” tours. With a tour that specializes in visiting the area of your particular family clan, we can be sure to hit the spots that will be most meaningful to our family’s history. A friend of my mom recommended Best Scottish Tours (great name), so I will be looking at what they offer as well.
Is there a tour company that does bus tours around Scotland you would recommend? I’m looking for a tour with little walking and mostly driving. I’m not particular about the areas in Scotland we visit as we have never been so everywhere will be great. Is there a “must see” area though that you would recommend? Let me know in the comments!
I plan to follow up this post with others on how my planning is going, so stay tuned.
